Our own Dan Wallace (one of the original full Series Brevet riders of
the South Central Florida Region) received the Can-Am Challenge award a
couple of weeks ago. This prestigious award is outstanding in
Randonneuring. Great Rides Dan!
On Saturday [July 8], Dan completed the VanIsle 1200km in Victoria,
British Columbia, and became the first American since 2004 to receive
the Can-Am Challenge award from the BC Randonneurs for completing both a
Canadian 1200km brevet and a US 1200km brevet in the same season.
Canadians Ken Bonner, the perennial Ultra Marathon Cycling Association
distance champion, and Manfred Kirchenmuller also received the award.
The Van Isle 1200 on Vancouver Island ran from July 5 to July 8, and the
Seattle International Randonneurs' Cascade 1200 ran from June 24 to June
27. That's over 1500 miles in less than 180 hours over two weeks
