600k Brevet, Clermont, FL - 2 April 2005

 

600k additional information:

Once again we find ourselves heading south out of Clermont on the General Van Fleet Trail to Polk City. Then we head southeast to Haines City working our way to the east and south, then doubling back towards Avon Park, following a service road down a portion of Hwy 27, cutting through some residential areas south thru Sebring, then heading east to Zolfo Springs, before heading back north. We will then visit the towns of Bartow and Winter Haven before heading back to Polk City and riding up the General Van Fleet Trail and going to Mascotte and returning to Clermont around Lake Minneola via Cherry Lake Rd., Jalarmy Rd, and of course the final hills that we encountered on the 400km before returning to the Cumberland Farms Control by the Holiday Inn Express.

It is at this time if you have enough time remaining you might consider getting some well earned sleep, shower, change into clean Jerseys, and head out on the final 90 plus miles. The alternative is to continue and finish the last portion without any rest. The beginning of this last portion takes in “The Wall”, “Sugarloaf”, and the series of hills on “BuckHill Rd.” After that it is smooth cycling on mostly flat scenic roads and a large portion of the West Orange Trail. All in all it is another good scenic brevet taking you to other parts of Central Florida and the quaint little towns that make up the unique composition of the fabric of rural Florida.

Daylight Saving Time!
At Sunday morning 2 AM the time will be adjusted to "Daylight Saving Time" and moved forward to 3 AM. We still have 40 hours to complete this brevet. For this Brevet we will stay on old time during the whole event. I suggest you stay on the Old Time on your watches. Please ask the clerks at the controls to write down the actual old time as Military time and if needed convert the time to Military time for them. We must have Military times down, otherwise I have to change them if not done properly and it makes the brevet cards look messy for RUSA and the ACP.

End of the ride control!
The Holiday Inn Express Front Desk Clerk will initial and write the time completed. You must sign your card on the back and return it to the front desk clerk, they will keep your brevet cards if I am not at the location to do so. If you want a Medal, just check the "Yes box" on the back, sign the card, put $10 in the card and hand it back to the clerk or me whatever the case is.

Preregistration / Registration week of the event!
Please don't wait this long unless absolutely necessary. I need time to process your registration, print personal brevet cards, and have enough volunteer staff and equipment for the event. As a minimum, please send in a complete registration via email 24 hours prior to the event.

Friday Evening (1 Apr 05): 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Check in and sign up for new registrants ($10 late charge) and preregistered riders. Be prepared to have your bike inspected with working lights and reflective gear.

Saturday morning (2 Apr 05): 3:00 AM - 3:45 AM
Preregistered only check in.  Be prepared to show your lights and reflective gear.

Processing and start of day of event registrants. All late registrants the morning of the ride will have to wait till after the official start and still must make all the controls check in time windows and the allotted time of 40 hours (8:00 PM Sunday), actually 9:00 PM Daylight Savings Time, Sunday, April 3, 2005.

Bike Inspection:
Will take place outside the Holiday Inn Express under the front entrance canopy, Friday evening 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM and 3:00 AM - 3:45 AM on Saturday morning.
